Building on the success of the Sharm el-Sheikh Declaration and the EMME-CCI Regional Action Plan, the EMME-CCI Secretariat, in partnership with the Deputy Ministry of Research, Innovation and Digital Policy of Cyprus, is organizing the International Conference: “Climate Action in the Eastern Mediterranean and Middle East: Regional Cooperation Empowered by Science and Innovation.” Hosted as an integral activity of the Cyprus Presidency of the Council of the European Union, this high-level event marks the transition from regional planning to implementation, aligning scientific innovation with the priorities of the EU Green Deal.
The conference engages a broad spectrum of stakeholders—including government officials, scientists, and policymakers—to advance science diplomacy in a region recognized as a global climate “hotspot.” By examining scientific foundations and debating the financial, legal, and ethical dimensions of adaptation, the event will provide evidence-based recommendations for the 2026 EU-Southern Neighbourhood Summit, establishing robust governance models for sustained regional cooperation.
Key Highlights
From Planning to Action: Implementing the science-based Regional Action Plan (RAP) across the EMME region.
Science Diplomacy: Strengthening transboundary cooperation and governance between the EU and its Southern Neighbors.
